August 23, 2025, marks the seventh anniversary of TigerWing table tennis. This day not only bears witness to the birth of a groundbreaking style and technique, but also embodies a team’s relentless pursuit of innovation, dreams, and self-transcendence.
“The best feeling in life is when you achieve something others say you can never do” is the simplest yet most ambitious summary of TigerWing founder John Ho’s years of innovative journey. From the initial introduction of the TigerWing concept in 2018 to its positive recognition by ITTF experts and magazines in 2025, this journey of exploration has been filled with doubt, loneliness, perseverance, and hope.
After seven years, the TigerWing style has finally captured the world’s attention. ITTF Director of Sport Development Mikael Andersson described it as “unprecedented and ingenious,” highly praising its mixed grip and dual-rubber fusion strategy, which combines the strengths of penhold and shakehand grips, long- pimple rubber and inverted rubber. This unpredictable style, characterized by fluid transitions between offense and defense, has injected new vitality into the world of table tennis.
The TigerWing style not only breaks with tradition but also challenges the inherent perceptions of existing coaches and athletes. Eli Ho, a representative player, exemplifies this system. He has won gold medals in numerous international tournaments, including the 2024 ITTF World Hopes U12 Challenge and the 2025 WTT Youth Challenge U13 & U15 San Francisco II, becoming a rising star on the global youth stage.
