“Tiger Wing” Grip/Style: This is a distinct and innovative table tennis grip and technique associated with Eli Ho. The name “Tiger Wing” comes from the Chinese saying “如虎添翼” (Rúhǔtiānyì), meaning “like a tiger with added wings,” signifying increased strength.
The Tiger Wing technique typically involves using a Japanese penhold bat or a modified shakehand bat.
The rubber configuration is usually inverted rubber on one side and long pimple rubber on the other.
It allows for a “Reverse Shakehand Backhand” (RSB) technique, where the player uses the inverted rubber on the reverse side of the racket for the backhand, enabling powerful topspin shots and flexible wrist movement.
Players can also utilize the long pimples on the backhand side for various defensive and offensive shots, creating a deceptive and varied play style.
Eli Ho is considered the first player to master this “Tiger Wing” technique. His father, John Ho, is noted as the founder of the TigerWing Shakehand technique style R&D Center and Eli’s enlightenment coach.
